Also, why is the Windows .NET 2.0 SDK required for installation of D2007 Pro? I removed it after installation and my IDE works fine as far as I can tell. It's a huge pig that sucks up valueable RAM and disk space. If I'm gonna program in .NET, I won't be using Delphi. I use Delphi because I don't use .NET. (I've been told the answer is because some other stuff that's not even included in the Pro version requires .NET to run. And, you changed installers because this new one was supposedly more flexible. Well, can't it be configured to not require bloatware that isn't needed for all installations?)

Most places I've worked would not tolerate such a customer-offensive policy like this. Why does it seem you guys shoot yourselves in the foot every time you have an opportunity to do something better? It takes an hour to do the installation, and it's not because of file size. It takes another hour do run the upgrade, after downloading the "patch". This is not a "patch". I'm not even sure what I'd call it! But the fact that it cannot update its own files without having a 1.5GB "cache" left around is simply abusive.

I would like to Complain about this original cache requirement. To uninstall is a nightmare for me as I have all the third party VCL installed in my Delphi 2007. Now I have to uninstall Delphi 2007 and reinstall Delphi + all the third party VCL, this is out of mind. Can't Borland do something like update 1, I do not have this kind of cache requirement problem during update 1. I think it is very un-professional to do an update that requires original cache, even Microsoft don't do that.

You can do a 'repair', you don't need to uninstall. However I strongly suggest backing up the registry:HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Borland\BDS\5.0(Right click on 5.0, select 'Export', save to a safe place).Just in case the repair modifies any 3rd party dependancies during the repair, you could then click on this .reg file and re-merge settings.Note- you could do this before an uninstall/reinstall as well to maintain 3rd party information.Chris

This hardly inspires confidence. How on earth have you managed to release a software product that can be installed in such a way that it then cannot be upgraded ? Perhaps a little more time spent improving the product, and less time wasted on byzantine installation scripts might be sensible ?
