Not impressed with InstallAware, especially with D2007 Update1 which a lot of people (including myself) had problems with. Seems like more Installshield style bloatware to me, I'll stick with Inno for now!

InstallAware - introduction and demonstration

Overall, the new InstallAware installer CodeGear looks and works fairly good. That said, I'd like to see CodeGear implement "real patches" that don't require downloading large ISO images or hundred+ megabyte files and require uninstalling and re-installing the IDE to get an update. I know InstallAware/MSI can do this, so I'd like to see CodeGear take advantage of that feature. One of the best and easiest updates to apply was the hotfix rollup for BDS 2006 that installed a bunch of things easily and quickly without uninstalling or any manual tasks involved. I also prefer updates that don't have multiple prerequisites. For example, when hotfix 12 requires hotfixes 8-9, update 1 and update 2 to be installed first. It becomes too hard to gather/run all the right pieces in the right order if you are installing multiple IDEs, etc. I'd rather the updates be more like MS SQL server, where service pack 2 applies to any install/patch level of the server. When I watched the Delphi 2007 update uninstall and reinstall the whole IDE to apply the patch, I was reminded of Steve Jobs talking to the original mac team about needing to shave another second off the mac bootup time. His reasoning was that some effort on the part of his team would save thousands of systems each booting up hundreds of times each times over their lifetime at least a second per bootup, which really adds up in terms of customer experience. In CodeGear's case, the average person probably only installs the update 1-5 over the lifetime, but the uninstall/reinstall process to patch just leaves a bad taste, even if it only adds maybe 15-120 minutes of total waste over time per user.I also noticed that if you uninstall an InstallAware app like the original Delphi 2007, the text of the UI elements claims you are "installing" most everywhere. It was confusing to me at first to see that.
