Not a VCL feature, but the debugger does not recognize the WITH x DO BEGIN block. This used to work in BP7 and, I think D1 & 2.And the help is a joke, even in D2007 SP3 and must be a real disappointment for a new purchaser - I still find I have to refer back to D7 help to get anything useful.Time to look at these details, too.

Damn is this really a $2000 IDE? The VCL doesn't support Unicode, of course, and the IDE doesn't seem to support Unicode itself at the first place. I created a console app, and right click on the editor, chose File Format -> UTF-8, and tried to Writeln some Japanese string, and voila,[DCC Error] Project1.dpr(11): E2038 Illegal character in input file: '"' (#$22)Write great 32bit Multibyte applications for Windows 9X with the $2000 Delphi 2007! I'm going to go write 64bit Unicode .NET applications with free Visual C# 2005 Express.

That's the big question. All this rubbish about web this, AJAX that. The VCL has been living in the dark ages with it's lack of Unicode support and changing this to full Unicode support is the only reason our company would choose to upgrade from Delphi 7 and right now we are actively investigating moving all our products away from reliance on Borland products solely because of this.

New VCL features since Delphi 7

Shame, is this all ??Poor Borland, not knowing where to go next? What about some real serious products.- Fix up dxExpress to be something decent, like DOA or ODAC.- Migrate away from the legacy from BDE and other utterly obsolete tools.- Include a supercharged Interbase out of the box.- Add a decent universal Data Management and Development Workbench (Something like TOAD)- Add some serious database tools, for ETL, Modelling, Migration.- A 64 compiler for Itanium.- Why kill Kylix, how about some serious stuff for Lunix, AIX, HP-UX that rivals MAC interface components.- What about Web-RAD, Using a new enhanced Pascal Object Language, behind something that has features like Macromedia.- What about the component business ?- How about Borland gets some real technology leads again, You know just following Microsoft is not what made Borland.Phew, too many Bean-Counters in Borland's executive management and too few genius. And although I am sure that Delphi for PHP is wonderful, yipee yahoo. Is this really it?- We also need to revise the Object Pascal Language. It is time to restore some of the kludgy syntactical issues and also add some new features.
