I like the new language features, but I don't like IDE of D2005/6 at all. I really want a D7 IDE with a D2006 compiler.... really.Don't follow Microsoft's step, whick will lead Borland & Codegear to death.

Stricter objects and re-shuffling the IDE was not where Delphi's problems were. The top feature requests in qc.codegear.com is pretty much representative of where the priorities lie (64bit/Generics/Unicode/With/Designer undo). That, plus of course Help/Language Ref/User Guide. I also cannot fathom the bundling of personalities, it just clutters things. And I agree D5 was the cleanest Delphi, I still refer to the paper docs. I also resent being forced to install .Net just to use Delphi 2007 Win32. Nevertheless, I am pleased to see Delphi is back and I use D2007 in my current project.

I really think these compiler feautures are usefull and need them in flexibel RTL software.I make complex objects and obj-factories etc. I use Delphi 2006 for industrial commucationscontrolling hole plants. The 32 bit Delphi version is still king of the hill (the .Net part I use instead VS2005).The new edittor looks as if CodeGear fired the old programmer (or he went to Redmont). Its a bad Idear that Delphi, with the same source, should compile to any platform Linux,.Net 32 bit.Give me a native Delphi.Linux , Delphi.Net and keep the Delphi.32 clean and plz make a Delphi.64 soonAnd plzzzz dont mix it all together in the source/IDE, it does not look nice ;-(((How about a Delphi pluckin into VS and thats it with .Net

I have a copy of Delphi 7 Personal that I run on a Windows 98 VM with 256MB RAM, no sound and a slightly old Pentium III. It is the only thing I can install Windows software onto, but D7 works a breeze. When I tried to install Delphi 2005 (I just wanted to try it), it failed immediately. Also, my copy of Kylix 3 won't work on my Linux machine (stupid glibc....). I think that since version 8, CodeGear / Borland IDE's have been a bit of a joke.

We are a programming company. When we give Delphi 2006, none of our Delphi programmers love that! They go back to D7. We hope they start Developer Studio 2006 and use ASP.NET and other new futures. Also we start learn them about asp.net and so more. We can not make our programs under Linux, PDA, Symbian and/or device driver programming yet with Delphi.Delphi changed but not improves!WHAT???

I agree, previous arrangement of the component palette was very useful and I think that there is not any reason to change it. I consider upgrading to D2007 from D7 since its releasing but look of the component palette is main reason why I still stay at D7.

Hear, hear about the component palette. I bought Delphi 2006 Pro and went back to Delphi 6 Pro because I couldn't stand the VB-like development environment. Please, please, please, allow us to use Delphi like we always have. That's what's keeping me, at least, from buying another version.
