      <description><![CDATA[It is refreshing to see evidence of a marketing department.It is also refreshing knowing that the marketing department is aware of why IT departments of larger organizations are consistently NOT choosing Borland products. The remaining hurdle is actually getting the message to the managers. Microsoft has excelled in this area. In order for the manager to choose Borland instead of Microsoft, the manager must actually believe it is his/her idea (and not something coming from the developers.) Managers are not typically technically inclined (if they were this wouldn’t be an issue.) Advertising primarily in technical publications tends to confirm what developers already know. In order to reach the managers, the message must be prevalent in non-technical arenas. Follow the lead from Microsoft, Computer Associates, and IBM and buy some advertising time during sporting events!When asked by non-technical people what I do for a living, I tell them that I am a software developer. About twenty percent will ask what language I use. The ultimate measure of success of Borland’s marketing efforts will be when just one of these people says, “Yeah I’ve heard of that!”]]></description>
