"Also, nothing was crashing without this patch. Microsoft's patches are a different story. So, no comparision (or a while loop) is necessary here."This is not true: a lot of things won't work without this patch - I had big problems in an application using ADO and MIDAS - had to borrow some code from the patch to heve it to work. And many apps won't even start on older OSes.

From the beta readme:"DO NOT USE BETA CODE PROVIDED IN THIS ARCHIVE IN PRODUCTION CODE. TO DO SO WOULD BE NOT ONLY DANGEROUS BUT JUST PLAIN SILLY."It is silly also to release beta a patch that never becomes an official patch. Ok, D7 is out, but many of us till have D6 program to develop and mantain... and Variants are sometimes a big problem - I had to borrow some code from these betas to have an application working... We bought delphi 7, but *please* release a patch for D6 also.

The instructions for installing this beta say to "open the VarOper project and compile it." I presume that this project file is supposed to be in the ZIP file, but as far as I can see, it isn't. Did something go wrong in the release process?

Releaseing a patch that improves a particular part of the program need not be considered as evil. You have to worry only when the patch is as big as the previous major release and applying that patch is a must. In this case it is not. Also, nothing was crashing without this patch. Microsoft's patches are a different story. So, no comparision (or a while loop) is necessary here.Best Regards,Satya
