You change the rules, ok, but please DO SAY clearly witch are the new rules! To be honest, with the information I have, it looks like it is much better to use a cracked version at home to avoid registration issues.. and it is not acceptable for me who have paid my copy of Delphi. Also it shouldn't be for you guys in Borland to force us to do so.To clarify me the situation, people in Borland please clear these three simple points:A) How many times can I register it? How much time do I have to wait until I use all this installations to be able of installing again? You only say "sufficient times", but it is no "sufficient information".B) If I don't register at home, will delphi stop running after a couple of mounth? You say that I don't have to register "inmediately", but do I have to do it before a mounth or two?C) If Borland closes in 5 years (I would be very sad if this happends), and I have to reinstall my old delphi 7... Will I be able to do so? I bought it FOR EVER.If you don't clarify those points, it will happend like in AutoCAD: People buy a license, but install the cracked version because the dongle is very buggy and causes problems.

Well David, You have just managed to make something that has always beendifficult for a corparate entity to manage even more difficult. We have had our own methods of tracking proper use and licensingof all of our software and now you have made it very difficult forus to keep track of. Be assured that we take things like this into consideration whenwe purchase software for a project(s). Especially when there are large numbers of licenses involved. It may have sounded like a great idea when you were considering howyou can track that person who buys a single copy of your product. Nowtry considering how difficult it is for someone buying large numbersof your product. Remember the old saying, "Be careful what you wish for, because youmight get it". Remember, there are always repercussions. Just look back at all the past methods of copy protection that have been tried in the past. This in no different.

Ok, Ok! I overreacted! I fished it out of the recycle bin and had another go. I have to say that it's not nearly as bad as I though - in fact it's pretty good!It turns out that an unregistered copy is pretty much the same as a registered version - I expected to be bombarded with nag screens each time I used it but this doesn't seem to be the case.Despite this, I still believe forcing registration on each install is STUPID! At best it's incovenient and more often impractical. In my case I have full internet access at work and therefore don't need (or want) access at home. Unfortunately this is where I want to use Delphi - it is a 'personal' edition after all. Once I'd downloaded the file I registered at work expecting to be able to use the registration key at home when I installed it there but clearly this isn't possible. I could always use the phone line but this would get tiresome given the number of times I usually reinstall Windows, and how long will this line be available anyway?.Thus, I am resigned to using an unregistered copy at home despite having registered for all the license keys when I downloaded the software. So where does this leave me, legally speaking? The license agreement says I must register the software. Does doing this once cover me for all subsequent installations? If so, why the need to re-register for each installation? If not, does it mean that I can't use it legally, effectively reducing me to piracy if I do? Is programming now restricted to those with internet access? Please rethink this Borland. Or at least clarify the situation. Delphi is a great tool and from what I've seen version 6 looks like the best yet. Please don't let short sighted marketing considerations spoil it.

I've installed D6 personal three times (twice on the same machine) and each time I've been presented with a different Registration Code which required a new activation code to allow me to register. In other words it seems to me that I have to register the software EACH TIME I INSTALL IT. This is NOT the scenario presented in this open letter. I'm more than happy to register ONCE to obtain a valid key which I could use for the entire life of the product but I am NOT prepared to register each time I want to install it.Well done Borland, once again you've managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory! Releasing a full, freely downloadable copy of Delphi should have been a great event but you've ruined it with this stupid, stupid registration scheme.Instead of being a viable development platform for developing free software D6 Personal is now little more than a time limited demo - how will we register when Borland goes bust due to the endless catalogue of stupid business decisions! How to install Delphi6 personal:1. Click on BorlandDelphiPersonalEdition.exe2. Right-click3. Select delete
