Helo;In his article Thorpe wrote:"...Your porting options for existing .ASM code are: Rewrite in Object Pascal or C. Long-term, this is your most portable option (see also PIC later in this article). ..."Based on this I dare ask:How can I build code in kylix, using a ".o" file (linking with {$L}) created with gcc in C language, without troubles like:"Illegal reference to symbol 'Write' in object file 'file.o'" and de "amazing" uses of global variables of C code?May I write code using C language directly like asm code in Delphi? Thanks.

Besides, not everyone is interested in programming in C++. I have no interest whatsoever in C++ Builder. If I'm going to have to endure C code it doesn't matter so much which development tool I use. I use Delphi because it is based on a nice, clean, easy to understand language and is highly productive.Besides, last I heard I thought Delphi had more users than C++ Builder.

Think of what you are asking for.It should be no problem to code a CRT for both systems, someone will do it and release it as freeware.Same to the HTML problem, I hope that someone will port an opensource browser to Kylix.Let inprise finish Kylix, all problems that can be solved as an addon can wait.Great article Danny, exciting facts AND a style that is worth a laugh!Aron

How will a Kylix application do these things under Linux? Will it be a case of recompile, or will rearchitecting be necessary? Will I be able to have one lot of source code, will I have to use IFDEFs, or will I require two completely different projects? Will both KDE/Gnome be supported? (I am Linux illiterate, so don't laugh if one binary will work for both, I just don't know yet.)Will you include an equivalent of InstallShield? Will the IDE and apps generated be stable? (as Kylix is v1.0, after all?)Will you port the BDE (& SQL links for whatever that works with Linux)? Will Word, LongInt, Integer, & Co. be changed to new data widths for Linux? (Those of which change every now and then, I can't remember which. Will the data widths change from an x86 implementation of Linux to Linux on a more powerful machine?(My guess is that SMP is out, at least for v1.0; we can always hope for v2, though. [On machines that support it, of course... :)])Does Linux support SMP yet? I though so, but this is a trivial and off-topic question, so I won't be expecting too many replies.

The feature set of the Kylix runtime libraries will be based on the Delphi 6 / BCB 6 RTL feature set. The v6 RTL is an expansion of the v5 RTL. Most of the additions are to abstract the differences between Windows and Linux, for things like path separator characters and line break styles, and to implement things not found in Linux, such as variants and bound resources.
