Well, it's an interesting article and it brought to me some viewpoints that I have never thought about before. In the article, the authors said that the success of Delphi ( on Linux ) shall not rely on destroying MS,and that the success of Linux is in that it became popular in spite of the monopoly of Windows. Here I found an interesting point on which I wish to hear the opinions of more people out there.Linux, to me, is different from other UNIX systems only in that it is developed for the so-called PC system.Presently, at least in my country---Taiwan, PC is much more popular than other computers like Mac or workstations.IMHO, this is solely due to MS.Without DOS/Windows, (or w/o Bill Gates...if you'd like to say so...) I do not think that PC will be that important, and neither will Linux be so interesting.I have been a Turbo/Borland/Inprise supporter and an MS-hater for long. But as I look back now, I found that there is nothing worth hating. 8)WIthout the monopoly of MS, PERHAPS there will not be one OS popular enough to make possible the long-termdevelopment of those amazingly good software like BCB, Delphi and JBuilder. Not to mention the migration of them to any other OS.Anyway, I do look forward to the Linux version of Delphi (Actually I'd prefer BCB because I'm more used to C++ language 8> ).I consider it as the sign that we people overcome the monopoly of MS and migrate to a wider new worldwith our own ability ( not just with the help of the Department of Justice of the US... 8> ).

IF you've had Delphi for Linux now (please With the BDE etc.) and IF it would be source-compatible with the Windows environment I'd have surely bought it for the same price as the Windows versions. Building portable applications would be great! It would help me getting grip step-by-step on the Linux environment. In that case I'd be able to add value, in stead of learning to do the same thing in another language. (Which in short terms is what I'm doing now, learning Linux). I'm not very fond of the Linux development tools because they ask too much understanding of the OS now. (In about 2 years I'll do better). So please, "port" your BDE's to Linux. I'd be glad to help you with beta-versions etc.Bob.

I must say that I just recently got into programming(mostly for databases) I am an avid Corel User for years. I also have been working in the Engineering/Architectural field for about 10+ years as a graphics/CAD/GIS operator/manager. Take my word for it many of us are ready for an alternative to NT. We run NT because it can handle our file size and 'demands' on the system without crashing at the top of the hour, every hour. Its amazing the time spent on maintaining a windows PC(patches, upgrades, etc.) and all the 'incompatibilities' that are soon discovered after installing a service pack. But of course we have to wait for MS to get off its butt and fix it. Let me ask this too.... if you can hit a combination of keys on the keyboard(ctrl, alt + $%#$%, etc.) and all of a sudden a cute 'game starts up in MS Word.......What other kind of @^&*# has MS put into the code that they are selling (at an exorbitant price)to all of us who have no choice.Well I do, I use Wordperfect and the rest of the Suite. It is still the best and has the best value. The key phrase is ....'HAVE NO CHOICE'. The time is now and 'we' need a choice.Or perhaps we should all paint a smile on our face and go fill up our Yugo's?!Could you imagine if the only choice was whether to have air conditioning, CD payer or whatever, installed into our Yugo. No Fords. No Chevy. No Toyota. No Volkswagen. No Daewoo.Anyways. Keep up the work to get us a new flavor, and soon.
