The procedures are not the same and the currently available compiler files are incomplete!

Bernard.I was an IT professional who went back to university (part time) to learn about some new things called PC's in the early 80's. My background in FORTRAN, COBOL and BASIC probably hindered rather than helped as I found myself struggling to learn TP 3.0. Three years later with my diploma safely on the wall, TP had become my favourite language - and remains so today, albeit in the form of Delphi. TP 3.x is great for writing TINY .com files - I still use it occasionally for doing so at work.May I suggest you upgrade to TP 5.5 (at least) for the following "good" reasons you may not be aware of: 1) UNITS - Much better than include files for re-using code. 2) UNITS - Are much easier to use than TP 3.x overlays for those "heavyweight" programs. 3) IDE - Much more functional - especially for testing and de-bugging. 4) OBJECTS - Sure I know the learning curve is steep - but it is worth it. Once you understand OOP, a whole new world of programming opens up to you, Delphi and .NET are two examples.

I'm a hobbyist programmer who still uses Turbo Pascal 3.0. I don't "get" object-oriented programming, and so I have boxes of TP 6.0 and TP/WIN 1/5 sitting on my shelf, unused. Newer programming languages have locked us hobbyists out of programming our PCs (and I don't just mean price-wise)! It would be great if Borland (or someone) would sell a version of Pascal that runs native under Windows and has access to Windows functions, mouse support, etc, but allows traditional structured programming methods.

Hi John,it's simple. I've had the same problem. You only have to change the write protect attribute of the TURBO.COM-file. The definitions you make with TINST are directly written into the TURBO.COM-file.I hope it helps youBest regardsChrsitian Drexlerme@drexler.ch

I wonder if anyone is trying to use this under the DOS Box in Windows XP and are having the same problems as me. When I try to use the install program TINST.COM it tells me that it cannot find TURBO.COM but it happens to be in the same directory. I have tried setting the PATH variable to no avail. And if I try to change directories so that I can keep my source code separate from my program files then it cannot find the .MSG files. If anybody has a solution to this problem please give me a reply.

Yes, a very welcome program to the Museum would be the Gameworks. I would also like very much to see the Turbo Toolboxes. Turbo Debugger, Turbo Assembler and Turbo Profiler would be great to see too.Would it also be possible to see the Macintosh and CPM versions of Turbo Pascal?
